*Sunshine Sacks for Foster Children

CCFC has partnered with The Family Care Network to provide a bag for each child placed in  emergency foster care.  These children often leave home with very few belongings of their own.   Each month, CCFC members meet at the Nazarene Church to make 20-40 sacks that contain toiletries, blanket, stuffed animal, notebook/journal, crayons, coloring book, pencils, calendar and a snack.  Family Care Network then delivers these sacks to each emergency foster home.

Thanks to generous donations from Kiwanis of San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, contributions from local dentists and businesses, CCFC members and friends, CCFC is able to provide these bags with little or no out of pocket expenses. Once a year in August, FCN asks for additional help providing school supplies to 80 or more children at a “back to school party”.  CCFC members often donate personal funds to support this project.

*Children’s Day in the Plaza Saturday April 12th, 2008

Central Coast Funds for Children participated in the annual fair for children at Mission Plaza on April 12 this year. We enjoy being part of this event every year.   What a wonderful day and happy smiles from all of the children who were having a great time.

April is National Child Prevention Month.  Each year SLOCAP, San Luis Obispo Child Abuse Prevention and Child Care Planning Council of SLO County sponsor this event.  Children and their parents spend the day, from 10:00 to 4:00 being entertained and educated by the many non – profit groups and agencies.  We have so much fun entertaining and helping the children make fruit loop necklaces.    Fourteen of us served up fruit loops and tied necklaces all day.  Of course some of the necklaces were eaten up pretty quickly.  We explored other booths and talked about the children and learned much about the joy of youth.   It was a good day to be young.

*Morro Bay Second Annual Kite Festival –Saturday, April 26, 2008

CCFC participated in the First Annual Kite Festival in the spring of 2007.  It was such a success that we will again this year.  A parade opens the festival Saturday morning in downtown Morro Bay. Additional  festival events take place on the beach beneath  Morro Rock.  CCFC volunteers will operate booths for children to make and decorate kites of their own.  We provide the markers, paints and stickers and manpower helping children decorate and assemble their kites. Expected are approximately 500 children from 4 elementary Morro Bay schools.

Professional kite flyers with beautiful kites of giant proportions entertain everyone in attendance.  Add to that children flying their own kites, food and craft booths, music and entertainment – families having a wonderful time together make it a very special day.

*”Camp Reach for the Stars” – June 7, 2008

CCFC volunteers organize and provide crafts at this weekend event held at Pinedorado in Cambria.  The "Kids" along with their family enjoy a fun-filled day with many craft projects, games and good food.  This year the theme will be "Summer Olympics".

CCFC *Laguna Middle School Christmas Gift Store

Since 2001, CCFC members have provided contributions to this worthwhile “spirit of giving” project at Laguna Middle School.  Students, under the guidance of Mrs. Carlin,  solicit for and manage a Christmas shop open to children who are part of the EOC programs and local elementary schools to purchase new and gently used items at very low prices.  Proceeds from the sale are voted on by the students and donated to other nonprofits in SLO County.  Not only do the students receive valuable skills in sales and merchandising but they also provide the opportunity for local children to participate in the joy of giving.
